Cyber Security Consultant

What you will be doing:
As a Cyber Security Consultant, you will be helping clients solve a range of cyber security problems from cyber security policy and strategy definition clearly to understanding their exposure to cyber security threats / risks and put in place pragmatic and cost-effective controls. You will both advise and deliver on identifying, managing and treating the risk to a client’s information and information technology assets.
Day to day tasks will include areas such as:
Understanding business and information risk context (typical business drivers, cyber security threats and implementation challenges) of our customers
Judge risk at a technical and business process level and clearly articulate both verbally and in writing to key stakeholders
Assessing the maturity of cyber security within an organisation and creating maturity development plans
Reviewing effectiveness of controls (in relation to known controls frameworks as appropriate) and proposing proportionate security improvements
Analysing and researching security technologies to support the development of innovative solutions
Assessing risk at the business function or process level
Leading client interviews or small investigations to determine business impact
Conducting site visits and threat assessments
Applying standard frameworks or relevant standard approaches
Leading the creation of risk assessment/reports
Working with account teams to identify new opportunities for work and support the production of quality proposals
What skills and experience will you need?
The ability to confidently articulate and present security advice to a range of stakeholders, including technical teams and senior leadership
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and well‑structured outputs
Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience building trusted relationships in client environments
Experience working in complex or regulated sectors (e.g. defence, government, financial services, energy, or telecommunications)
A solid understanding of cyber security principles, architectures, and technical controls
Practical experience applying risk management and assurance frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001, NIST, or similar)
An awareness of operating within high‑assurance or security‑constrained environments, including handling sensitive information
You will be required to obtain Security Clearance (SC) and be able to travel to our client’s site, in the Portsmouth area at least 2 days per week.
